You have been reading (I hope!) extensively on early Amerian history and the impact of European exploration and colonization. First, I would like you to discuss the role the growing European economic system of mercantilism played in the growing European interests in the "New World." Second, do you feel this economic opportunity justified the actions of Europeans once they arrived in the Americas? Justify your answer with specific examples from the text or any other significant source you would like.
Help With the Flashcards:
Many of you have emailed me wanting help with the flashcards, themes (government, culture, economics) and eras. The largest problem I've heard from you are on the geographic terms (i.e., the Great Lakes, Appalachian Moiuntains, et cetera). Seeing how these are landforms that simply set up a background knowledge of America, I would not worry about fitting these terms in with an era (obviously they have been there through every era we will discuss in the class) or a theme (feel free to add geography as a theme if you would like, but its not required). Hopefully I've addressed everyone's questions on the flashcards, but if you are still confused, drop me an email and I'll try to clear it up as best I can.
Have a great June and enjoy the break!
