The English colonies that would eventually become the foundation for the original regions of the United States can be divided into three groups: the New England Colonies, the Middle Colonies and the Southern Colonies. These colonies differed for many reasons, most notably they were founded for different reasons. New Englanders were largely seeking a new land in order to practice Puritan religions. The Middle Colonies were formed by English joint stock companies seeking a quick profit. The Southern Colonies were largely founded as a haven for the new valuble commodity, sugar.
Compare and contrast the three different groups of colonies and explain how these differences impacted the regions' economies (especially regarding slavery), culture and government.
