Comparing the Influence of Western Europe with Nomadic Civilizations of Eurasia in the Third-Wave1/26/2016 We've discussed Eurocentrism earlier this year and I feel this is an important time to bring it back to your attention. In America, historians and history classes have a tendency to focus on Europe and American history. We have looked at the events that changed and developed society in Western Europe from 500-1300 C.E. and have just begun to look at the nomadic civilizations of Eurasia during the same time period. Which do you think was more influential on world history as a whole? Explain your answer and respond to at least 2 of your peers.

I believe looking at the whole picture is the most important to learn so we can focus on culture and difference. We can then compare and understand many societies that we would have not understood if we didn't study interactions world wide, religion, etc. Learning the big picture is better than specifically watching one part because we can see how they connect and make inferences on why and how.

I think the nomadic civilizations of Eurasia were more influential because the nomads in that region spread a lot of new religions and stuff. Without the nomadic civilizations, things would have spread a lot slower.

I think the civilizations of Eurasia had a bigger impact on world history because other civilizations (including Europe) had borrowed their technology and ways of life. Eurasia influenced a lot more than Europe had.

I believe that European advancements have influenced history as a whole; their growth was gradual but spread over the globe, leading to influence in Asia, the Mediterranean, the British Isles, Scandinavia, and the Middle East.

I believe the nomadic Mongolian civilizations had a greater influence on the rest of the world due to their ability to spread their "customs" quickly because they were "on the move" and always interacting with others.

yeah I didn't look at it that way, I was more focused on the western civilizations' negatives than on these nomadic civilizations' positives

I think that these nomadic conquering groups were a lot more influential than western Europe from 500-1300 C.E. during this time Europe was going through the dark ages and were not contributing with any original ideas or had any technological advances.

I think the nomadic civilizations were more influential on world history as a whole because they helped spread religion among other things, while Western Europe was going through a time when they didn't accomplish much of anything.

We think Nomadic civilizations have had more influence because they built the biggest empire out of the millennium. The Nomadics spread cultural identities (Arabs, Turks) and traded throughout Eurasia.

I think that Western Europe had more of an impact than nomadic civilizations on overall world history. Population and growth were increasing rapidly specifically between 700-1000 C.E.. More opportunities for women also were created because of the increase in population and the transfer from agriculture to manufacturing due to an increase in trade. Western Europe had more of an impact overall.

Eurasia would be a bigger influence in the long run because societies from all over the world borrowed stuff from them Stuff that without it we probably wouldn't be where we are today

I think western civilizations have more of an influence on world history because the pastoral society spread religion food and many other things very quickly around Asia, Europe and some of Africa.

The nomadic civilizations of Eurasia were more influential at this time period than Western European civilizations. At this time, Western Europe was struggling to keep peace; there were no great inventions. There was no advancement after the fall of Rome. The nomadic societies were able to spread ideas, such as religious ideologies, at a quicker pace because they traveled so greatly. They were a necessity in the trade business with agricultural societies. They also united the people of inner Eurasia to form the largest empires of that time period.
